Activision and Treyarch make Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's Nuketown map free on current-gen platforms for all players of the futuristic first-person shooter.
For those unaware, upon Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 's launch back in November 2015, the Nuketown map was only available if fans pre-ordered the game. Now, thankfully, Activision and Treyarch are making its updated version of the fan-favorite multiplayer area freely accessible to all players on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
On top of the map being free, developers are also offering up what is known as the Nuk3town Personalization Pack — that is, DLC themed after the map — with no additional purchase required for the aforementioned platforms. This means that players will also get new weapon camouflage and gun reticles, as well as a similarly styled calling card forCall of Duty: Black Ops 3.
As seen in the announcement trailer below, the first-person shooter's developers take fans through a brief history of Nuketown's origins from the first two Black Ops games, to itsDeclassifiedversion, and all the way up through the franchise's most recent iteration by showing how combat works in the area. However, the footage doesn't reveal Nuketown's well-known Easter egg involving the unlockable zombie mannequins found posted up around the map.

Now that Nuketown is free for all players on current generation platforms — PS3 and Xbox 360 fans are stuck with base materials — Treyarch has announced it will be launching a 24/7 playlist for the next week that specifically features the futuristic shooter's revamped map. Not to mention, fans will also see Nuketown crop up throughout main map rotation across a variety of different multiplayer playlists.
The decision made on the behalf of Black Ops 3's developers to start including Nuketown as a free map is a smart one. In doing so, Activision and Treyarch can ensure the satisfaction of those players who didn't put money down for the game before its release by now allowing them to take part in the map's action, while the companies are also able to retain all of the benefits from using Nuketown to incentivize Black Ops 3 pre-purchases last year. Basically, it's a win for practically everyone involved in the title's production and post-launch play.
