Design
Curved No
The design of the East Series 2017 is very basic, and information technology certainly won't exist the centerpiece of any room. It is a fairly thick TV which looks very similar to the Vizio E Series 4k 2016.
The stand is wide, and looks the same as the 2016 model. It is made of plastic and supports the TV quite well.
Footprint of the 65" TV stand: 11.3" x l.7"
Wall Mount VESA 400x400
The back of the TV is quite bones, but the inputs are all parallel to the Telly so are attainable even if it is mounted on a wall. This is the same design as the E Serial 4k 2016.
Borders 0.67" (1.7 cm)
The borders take an average thickness, but look quite good due to the textured plastic edge.
Max Thickness 2.91" (7.four cm)
The Tv looks quite thick and blocky when viewed from the side, so it may stick out slightly if wall-mounted.
Maximum Temperature 86 °F (thirty °C)
Average Temperature 84 °F (29 °C)
This is a very cool TV, by and large considering of its low brightness and large size. The frame remained cool to the touch, even along the lesser.
The build quality of the 2017 E Serial is as expected for a low-mid range Tv. All the parts are made of plastic but this shouldn't cause any problems for normal use.
Picture show Quality
Native Contrast 5,307 : 1
Contrast with local dimming five,331 : one
The native contrast of the Vizio E Serial 2017 is excellent. Situated over the 5000 marking, the high contrast ratio will procure deep blacks which brand a big departure in picture quality especially when the TV is gear up in a nighttime room. It is specially important for nighttime scenes in movies.
When the Television's local dimming feature is turned on the contrast ratio remains almost the aforementioned (5331); this is due to the poor implementation of local dimming on this TV.
Local Dimming Yes
Backlight Full-Assortment
The Vizio E Serial 2017 has a total-array backlight with local dimming, only the performance is really non proficient. Vizio states that this model has 12 zones, but this isn't plenty zones to produce a good result. The white highlights get dimmed too much, especially when transitioning from one zone to some other; this is especially visible for smaller highlights.
Looking at other tests where local dimming can have an impact, the test results too show that the local dimming is not that nifty. The contrast ratio is almost the same with and without local dimming and the blackness uniformity is also a bit worse.

Mediocre SDR peak brightness. In a dark room the TV will appear bright enough, only in a bright room the effulgence will exist disappointing.
The Television receiver's local dimming actually dims minor highlights in dark scenes rather than making them brighter like the local dimming of about TVs, as shown in our ii% and 10% white window tests. This reduces blooming around highlights, merely doesn't brand them stand out as much from the residue of the scene.
A plot of effulgence over time is shown here.

Poor SDR tiptop effulgence. This Goggle box does not get bright plenty to take advantage of the increased brightness range of HDR content, then very bright features in scenes volition not be much brighter than the residuum of the scene as the content creator intended. Bright highlights in night scenes volition actually be dimmed because of how this Goggle box'due south local dimming functions, as seen in our 2% and 10% white window tests. This is unlike the local dimming of most TVs, which brightens highlights.
A plot of effulgence over time is shown here.

The overall greyness uniformity is sub-par on the 2017 E Series. The 50% gray test film shows that the whole screen is not very uniform, as the borders and corners are very dark when compared to the rest of the screen. Dirty screen effect is pretty obvious just by looking at our test movie, and when watching normal content similar hockey it tin can be annoying.
When displaying a five% gray prototype the Vizio E Series fares a bit better. Not many issues can be noticed and the standard deviation and dirty screen effect numbers are both better than on the 50% greyness. On the picture both sides are brighter than the middle, but this is due to the black level changing due to the narrow viewing angle and not a result of uniformity issues.
Color Shift 24°
Brightness 44°
Black Level xiii°
Bad viewing angle. Blacks beginning to await gray when viewing the Boob tube from merely a small bending, and colors shift quickly at an angle too. People sitting to the side of the Television will not have every bit good picture quality every bit people sitting directly in front.

The native blackness uniformity (without local dimming) is fantabulous for the 2017 E Serial. The whole screen is very compatible and does not prove signs of flashlighting oftentimes seen in the corners of LED TVs, which is very practiced, specially for dark scenes.
When local dimming is turned on, the uniformity of our test movie actually becomes worse. Looking at the picture you tin see that the blacks are deeper in the top and bottom parts of the screen, leaving a horizontal line of blooming at the aforementioned level equally the white cantankerous. This is mostly due to the local dimming not having enough zones to limit the horizontal blooming where the cross is.
Screen Finish Semi-gloss
Total Reflections five.0%
Indirect Reflections 0.5%
The Boob tube has a semi-gloss stop, which causes bright reflections to diffuse beyond the screen. This does help to reduce their intensity but may cause issues in bright rooms.
Update 10/06/2017: The reflection score has been adjusted after comparing to the Vizio M Serial 2017.

White Balance dE three.53
Color dE ii.67
Gamma 2.17
Color Temperature 6,039 G
Out of the box, the Vizio 2017 E Series is pretty accurate. The white balance dE is a bit high and the overall color is a flake warm, but if you are non an enthusiast that has calibrated a Telly you lot might not even notice it. Besides that, the colour dE is reasonable and the gamma is tracking pretty close to our goal of ii.2.
Moving-picture show Mode Custom
White Residue dE 0.11
Color dE 1.68
Gamma 2.xx
Color Temperature 6,499 K
The calibration process is fairly straightforward and the whole process is relatively fast to practice. The white balance is responsive and easy to calibrate via the SmartCast app and the dE was brought down to a negligible 0.11. The color space management arrangement is also responsive but a bit more time is needed to be able to bring downwardly the color dE. In the stop, the TV is really authentic and the gamma is tracking almost perfectly our goal of 2.two.
You can see our recommended settings here.
Upscaling of low quality content is slightly worse than boilerplate. Similar to other Vizio TVs, DVDs appear a scrap soft just there is some choppiness to the image.
720p content such as cable is slightly more than soft than usual, resulting in some minor loss of item.
1080p content such equally Blu-rays expect expert once upscaled. The image remains sharp.
No issues can be seen in 4k content. The image is very articulate and detailed.

Standard color gamut. This Television receiver cannot properly show HDR colors, its gamut is but practiced plenty for showing Rec 709 colors in standard content.
At our normal 75% stimulus brightness level in HDR, the Television set purposely undersaturates blues and reds and so that information technology can make them brighter; however this is not the case at a dimmer 50% stimulus where the TV can show the colors properly and still brand them brilliant enough. This is shown here for DCI P3 and here for Rec 2020 color.

Disappointing color volume. Saturated Rec 2020 dejection and reds cannot get virtually bright enough, and although the Idiot box's local dimming helps it dim dark colors, its very cold black point hurts its reproduction of extremely dark colors.

The 2017 East Series tin brandish our gradient exam image almost perfectly, with only minor visible imperfections in the dark greenish, which is pretty good for a budget Idiot box.
There is also no banding traditionally seen on a 8 bit TV and this is a big improvement over the 2016 E Series, which was only able to display our gradient test prototype with a maximum flake depth of 8 bit.

Move
lxxx% Response Time half-dozen.4 ms
100% Response Time 14.7 ms
The response fourth dimension of the Eastward Series 2017 is low, which results in great movement blur performance. Just a brusque trail can exist seen following moving objects. This is a pregnant improvement over the 2016 Eastward Serial 4k.
Flicker-Free No
PWM Dimming Frequency 480 Hz
The Due east Series 2017 uses PWM at 480Hz to dim the backlight, starting at 99/100 backlight setting, merely at that frequency it isn't really noticeable. Lowering the setting shortens the duty cycle, while amplitude remains constant until very depression backlight settings.

It is possible to enable 'Clear Action' to reduce the PWM frequency to 60Hz, and this helps to clear-up eye tracking persistence blur significantly. Note that the BFI pick isn't bachelor for HDR content every bit it reduces the brightness of the screen significantly.
Motion Interpolation (30 fps) No
Motility Interpolation (sixty fps) No
This Boob tube has a 60Hz panel, and is unable to interpolate lower frame rate content. Fans of the soap opera outcome may be disappointed.
Frame Hold Time @ 24 fps 27.0 ms
Frame Concord Time @ 60 fps 2.0 ms
This TV can display movies and TV shows without much stutter, which is good. Even for very low frame content such as 24 fps movies, the image appears smooth equally the response time helps to blur the transition between frames.

Unfortunately, judder is present when playing 24p movies over 60p/60i sources like cablevision and satellite boxes. This is the aforementioned issue as the 2016 Due east Series.

Adequately low input lag. When 'Game Low Latency' is enabled in any picture show mode the input lag becomes ~xl ms, which is practiced plenty for most gamers but may not exist proficient enough for very competitive gamers. Using the game picture manner makes no difference to the input lag, it'southward the 'Game Depression Latency' toggle that counts.
Update 01/23/2018: Retested input lag with the latest firmware (3.4.8.xv). Input lag is ~nine ms higher across the board; this is also the example with the M Series 2017 and HDMI port 1 on the P Serial 2017. The review has been updated.

Dissimilar our other photographs, this picture wasn't taken under a controlled environment, so do not depict conclusions from it.
The Vizio East Series 2016 is good, just the biggest advantage compared to the competition is its great value for size. Y'all tin detect a 65" version for well under $1000, which is very rare. It is one of the few TVs available in an fourscore inch size (see our recommendations for the best 80 inch TVs).
twoscore" 43" 50" 55" 65" 75"
The Samsung MU6300 is a bit better than the Vizio E Series 2017. The MU6300 is brighter than the Vizio E and has much amend input lag for gamers. The Samsung also has an optional movement interpolation characteristic that the Vizio East lacks. The Vizio Due east has meliorate reflection handling and is better at removing judder from 24p sources. The 55" Vizio Due east Series has an IPS panel and will be meliorate for a wider viewing expanse.
43" 49" 55" 65"
The Vizio E Series 2017 4k Goggle box is a chip amend than the LG UJ6300 for most people, unless yous accept a wide viewing area. The Eastward Series (except for the 55") has a VA type panel, which has a much better native contrast ratio and blackness uniformity, which make for a better dark room viewing experience than the IPS type panel of the UJ7700. The LG UJ7700 has a wider viewing angle than the E Series and has lower input lag, making it a flake meliorate for gamers.
50" 55" 65" 70" 75"
The Vizio M Series 2017 is a chip better than the Vizio E Series 2017. The Yard Series has a amend local dimming feature than the E Series, making it a better option for movies and HDR content in a dark room. It is too brighter than the E Series with SDR content. The 55" Vizio E Series uses an IPS panel, making information technology a slightly improve pick than the M Series if you scout Goggle box in a broad, bright room.
43" 49" 55" 65"
The TCL S405 4k Goggle box is slightly better than the Vizio Due east Series 2017. The S405 has much amend low input lag, making it a ameliorate choice for gamers. The TCL S405 doesn't have a local dimming feature only the local dimming on the Vizio E Series isn't very constructive. The Vizio E Serial 2017 has a much better blackness frame insertion feature than the TCL S405, so movement will look a little more fluid but it sacrifices some brightness.
